so my main format for listening to music nowadays is cds. i have an ipod nano but the battery needs to be replaced, something i'm hoping can happen over my winter break. i also listen to bandcamp off my laptop. most of the time, though, i like to listen to music in my car, and i love rotating through my cd collection. i find that owning cds forces me to appreciate every album i listen to more. i'm less likely to skip to the most exciting song and more likely to sit and listen the whole way through, which causes me to really appreciate all of my albums as individual works of art. i have a close friend who sends me cds in the mail, so i usually get something new at least every month.
the cds currently in my collection are:
my most-listened-to albums from my collection have been dogs body, transatlanticism and computerwife. computerwife is definitely my aoty-- every single song hits, and the build through the whole album is great. the cd is really bassy too and sounds great in my car. i've also been listening to post-american a lot! that one's newer though, so i haven't spent as much time with it. i'm excited to finish up the king woman album too; it's doom/sludge metal and it makes for great driving music.
i'd like to expand my collection with more rap/hip-hop, jazz, and folk/alt-folk/singer-songwriter type stuff. my parents are getting me cds for christmas and i'm hoping for a lot of jazz, some elliott smith stuff and another outkast album. i know my friend is sending me some new mystery cds for christmas too.
on the jazz thing, i've been really interested in jazz lately! it's my dad's favorite genre. he has a bunch of jazz cds that we listen to together when i'm home. i want to find more jazz to share with him! lately i've been listening to the group sons of kemet, and i'm hoping to get their album your queen is a reptile. i've also been listening through kamasi washington's debut album the epic. i'm trying to find more contemporary alt and fusion jazz, and i also want to pick up cds from thelonious monk and charles mingus, who i used to love listening to with my dad.
i'm hoping to get a portable cd player so that i can take my cds around with me outside of just my car! i would look so stupid listening to a cd player with headphones on the bus. i think it would be pretty awesome. i'd also like a cassette player; i want to start a cassette collection too, especially from local bands. i used to be anti-cassette because i thought cassette players were less accessible than cd players, but that's changed now that computers and cars are being made without them. :( i also need to refurbish my ipod nano and my headphones! the battery life on the nano is too short, and my headphones are busted as hell and feel gross to wear. i think both of these are going to be christmas break projects.
finally, i'm going to see model/actriz live on saturday opening for the armed! i'm super excited because they're supposed to be epic live. thinking of posting about that too!
if you're reading this for some reason, thanks! it's a fun way to slack off at work! i hate my job
