music: list of recent enjoyed albums (12/25/23)
i wanted to record some of my recent listening to help me keep track of it in my head. these aren't really reviews--i don't know how to review music effectively lol.
- tortoise--tortoise (jazz fusion)
- tortoise--tnt (jazz fusion)
- tortoise--beacons of ancestorship (jazz fusion) (my favorite of the tortoise albums i listened to, really want this cd)
- john zorn--naked city (jazz fusion) (phenomenally goofy. half the time it sounds like a cheesy 80s spy movie soundtrack and then it nosedives into unintelligible screeching with a side of saxophone being waterboarded. impeccable)
- coriky--coriky (punk) (new band of fugazi bassist joe lally)
- hit target--a dog a deer a seal (punk) (fucking epic crazy awesome)
- boris--pink (doom, psych, punk) (also fucking epic crazy awesome)
- boris--heavy rocks (2002) (doom, psych, punk) (also also fucking epic crazy awesome)
- boris and sunn O)))--altar (ambient, drone) (didn't finish but deserves a shoutout for being the worst possible soundtrack to driving around looking at christmas lights)
- la dispute--wildlife (melodic hardcore) (maybe the second worst soundtrack to driving around looking at christmas lights)
- mf doom--doomsday (deluxe edition) (hip-hop)
- mujeres podridas--muerte en paraiso (punk, psych) (added to my bandcamp collection!)
i've been appreciating psych-y noise-y sounds recently. want to listen to some more of boris, and would love to add some of their music to my physical collection! still no portable cd player, but i found a cassette player at my parents' which might work decently if i'm able to clean some of the interior components. the speakers sound like shit but it's kind of cute. would love to source a walkman from somewhere. also still need to repair my damn ass ipod. merry christmas if you celebrate!
